José R. Mas
José R. Mas was appointed CEO of MasTec in 2007 and during his tenure MasTec's revenues have doubled and earnings have more than tripled. Since assuming the top executive position at MasTec, José has diversified the company into the growing fields of renewable energy, electric transmission line construction and oil and gas pipeline construction while expanding its traditional communications business, which now includes wireless and broad-band infrastructure including install-to the home satellite services. José Mas has grown up in the business and over those 18 years worked his way from the field to the boardroom. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Mr. Mas served as Executive Vice President, responsible for business development, marketing and strategic planning. From 1997 to 2001 Mr. Mas served as President of MasTec's Telecommunications Group.
José Mas is a graduate of the University of Miami where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration. He is a director of the Mas Family Foundation, the Christopher Columbus High School Board and an active supporter and coach of various youth basketball teams. Recently, he was also appointed to serve on the U.S. Department of Commerce National Advisory Council on Minority Business Enterprises.
Chief Operating Officer
Robert Apple has been our Chief Operating Officer since December 2006. Previously, Mr. Apple served as Group President for MasTec's energy service operations since 2005. He has more than 20 years of operational and senior management experience in commercial, technical and service-based corporations. From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Apple was a senior vice president at DIRECTV®, where he was responsible for the installation and service network, warranty program, supply chain management and national dispatch support. From 1997 to 2001, Mr. Apple, while on assignment from Hughes Electronics/DIRECTV® Latin America to Telefonica S.A., served as Chief Operating Officer and Board member of Via Digital, a direct broadcast satellite company and Telefonica affiliate. From 1985 to 1996, Mr. Apple served in various capacities within the Hughes Electronics organization, including as Chief Executive Officer of Hughes Electronics-Spain, Vice President of Hughes Europe and as a program manager for a Hughes Electronics training and support systems group. Mr. Apple is currently a Director of Domtar Corporation (NYSE:UFS).
Mr. Apple, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps., where he was a "top gun" pilot and part of the team that rolled out the F/A-18 strike fighter.
George L. Pita
Executive Vice President and CFO
George L. Pita is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MasTec, Inc. George joined MasTec in February 2013 as CFO Operations. Prior to joining MasTec, George was Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of Stuart Weitzman Holdings, LLC ("Stuart Weitzman"), formerly a portfolio company of Irving Place Capital, sold to the Jones Group, from 2007 - 2013. From April 2002 to June 2007, Mr. Pita served in several positions at Perry Ellis International, one of the leading apparel companies in the United States, including as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 2004 - 2007 and as Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning from 2002 - 2004. From 1989 - 2002, Mr. Pita served in a variety of financial and operating positions, including Chief Financial Officer, at Sunglass Hut International. Prior to his service at Sunglass Hut International, Mr. Pita served as a Senior Audit Manager with Arthur Andersen, LLP in Miami, Florida. From January 2008 through February 2010, Mr. Pita also served as a special advisor to Atlas Acquisitions Holding Corp, a special purpose acquisition corporation from 2008- 2010.
Mr. Pita received a B.B.A., Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami and has been a certified public accountant for approximately 30 years. George has served on the Board of Easter Seals of South Florida a non-profit organization that provides education services to Autistic children and Care services for Alzheimer patients since 2011. George also serves on the Advisory Board for the University of Miami School of Accounting.
Alberto de Cardenas
Executive VP, Corporate General Counsel
Alberto de Cardenas has been our Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary responsible for all of MasTec's corporate and operational legal matters and corporate secretary matters since November 2005. From March 2003 to November 2005, Mr. de Cardenas was Senior Vice President and General Counsel and from January through March 2003, Vice President and Corporate General Counsel of Perry Ellis International, Inc. From September 1996 through December 2002, Mr. de Cardenas was a corporate and securities attorney at Broad and Cassel. From September 1990 to July 1993, Mr. de Cardenas was an accountant at Deloitte & Touche LLP.
Mr. de Cardenas holds a bachelor of science degree in Accounting from the University of Florida, a master of science degree in Taxation from the Florida International University and a juris doctor degree from the George Washington University.
