The purpose of this $58 million Lake Region Water Treatment Plant and Transmission System is to reduce the public water supply withdrawals from Lake Okeechobee and provide an alternative water supply solution for the lakeside communities of Pahokee, Belle Glade and South Bay by shifting the area's water source from Lake Okeechobee to the Upper Floridian Aquifer, which should provide significant environmental and public health benefits to the region. The project was made possible through the combined efforts and financial contributions of SFWMD, the FDEP, Federal Government, Palm Beach County and communities of Pahokee, Belle Glade and South Bay.
Scope of Work
Installation of approximately 80,000 LF of various sized watermains (30", 24" and 16"), and approximately 10,000 LF of 30"and 24" raw water main, as well as, 24” water main area crossing over Hillsborough Canal. Over 12,000 SY of roadway reconstruction.
